What type of B&B is The House at Hawes
We may be a 5 star luxury, boutique b&b but we are incredibly relaxed. You won’t find stuffy white glove service but you will find a home from home feel where you can relax, refresh and revive. We are adults only (no under 18’s) but we don’t accommodate stag, hen or wedding guests/parties.
How do I book a stay?
Direct with us of course and then you will be guaranteed our very best rates, best check-in / out times, free wi-fi, and free car parking for all double rooms. So book direct from this website or call us on 01969 667348, we love to talk to you!
Are children accepted?
The House at Hawes is the perfect place for rest and relaxation and as such we only accept over 18’s. The only exception is if you are looking to book the whole house and then we will consider children over 12 years. We are happy to suggest local b&bs that cater for families.
Can I bring my dog to stay?
We love dogs but just don’t have the facilities to accept them in guest rooms. And just to confirm, as we have been asked before, we don’t allow your dog to be left in your car in our car park either because we just don’t think that is nice and fair to your dog. We can recommend a great local home border for your dog if you want to bring them, ask us for details about Witton Waggy Tails.
Do be aware we have a dog of our own, Florence, a very loveable chocolate Labrador. She is very quiet, doesn’t go in guest rooms but is exceptionally popular with many regular guests and is always on hand for a fuss if you would like to say hello.
Whilst on the subject of animals we also don’t accept stags, hens, budgies, cats or cheetahs too!
Will my room have a view?
We are lucky that all our first floor rooms have lovely aspects. Our rear facing rooms have views over Wether Fell and to the front, over the road to Stags Fell towards Buttertubs Pass.
Will my room have a bath or shower?
All our rooms are en-suite. All have large walk-in showers we don’t have rooms with a bath.
Are there places to eat within walking distance?
Yes, nice ones! We have 4 pubs in Hawes serving good food, numerous cafes and restaurants, including an Indian. Take a look at our food page for our reviews on eating out. For those a little further afield there is also a great local taxi service but it must be booked well in advance.
Can we book the whole B&B?
Yes, groups of up to 9 family or friends can book exclusive use of The House at Hawes, it is perfect for a special occasion. Contact us for more details and to discuss your requirements. But do remember this option isn’t available for stags, hens, those attending weddings or similar groups.
Do you have wi-fi?
Yes and it’s superfast! As fast as it can be in a Hawes, we aren’t techy so can’t reel off download or upload speeds but if you really need to know sure we could find out for you.
What is mobile phone signal like?
The honest answer is variable across the Dales. It depends on your network, we use Vodaphone and have no issues here. If you have wi-fi calling you can of course tap into that if you need to keep in touch.
Is there car parking?
Yes! We have parking for one car per king and superking room. We can’t guarantee a parking space for single room but will do our best. Contact us to discuss. If you are likely to arrive in a very big vehicle do let us know before and again we will do our best. There is also free on road parking right outside.
Do you have a garden?
Yes, you will find benches to sit on. We have garden games too, croquet, quoits and boules.
Is there somewhere to store a cycle?
We don’t have dedicated cycle storage. At times we may be able pop your cycle in our garden shed but do be aware that you will need to cover any loss or theft on your own insurance.
Do you offer free cancellation?
No. When you book we expect you to honour your part of the booking and you will pay a non-refundable deposit. Just as you would if you were holidaying abroad you should take out appropriate holiday insurance and if you don’t you knowingly accept the risk. You can view of full terms and conditions here.
What’s for breakfast , what time is breakfast / I have specific dietary needs
Our breakfasts are severed 8.15 to 9am daily and are award winning and rather delicious. You will find all the usual traditional options plus a changing specials board, with lots of vegetarian options, see our sample menus on our Eat page. As long as we have advance warning we are happy to prepare vegan, gluten free diets. Do let us know if you have allergies. Whilst we have to say we can’t guarantee to be free from cross contamination we will do our best.
What is there to do in the area?
There isn’t room to write everything here! Needless to say we are in the perfect location to discover the Yorkshire Dales and to pop over to the Lake District, not to mention the market towns, cathedral city, stately homes, museums, walks, waterfalls heritage railway etc. See our Explore page for more.
Can I get to Hawes on public transport?
Yes The nearest train station is Garsdale around 6 miles away and the little white bus service links up to this to get you to Hawes.
When is check in and out?
As a small b&b we don’t operate a 24 hour reception. Check-in is available from 4.00pm with usual afternoon check-in between 4-5pm. For those delayed until later in the day we offer check-in until 8.00pm by prior arrangement.
Check-out is by 10.00am on the day of departure.
Do you service rooms daily? That is your choice. Since the pandemic many guests have preferred us not to enter their room during their stay. For those that wish we service rooms daily. But if you choose not to have a daily service you won’t miss out on anything, daily treats and top ups are still provided.
Do I need holiday insurance?
We would say absolutely yes. You should take out insurance to cover any risk of cancellation just as you would if you were holidaying aboard. If you choose not to take out insurance you accept the associated risk of still paying for your reservation should you need to cancel.
