In Hawes
We are blessed with a great selection of pubs, cafes, restaurants and eateries in Hawes.
From coffee and cake, lunch and dinner and of course cheese, you will be spoilt for choice.
Most are exceptionally busy all the time. It is advisable to book evening meals well in advance, some have online booking facilities but please be patient if you don’t get through the first time on the phone. Some places may ask you for a deposit or card details to reserve your table.
Cafes
Caffe Curva
On the main street in Hawes just by the one way system. You cannot be disappointed with this café, we love it!
Fabulous lunches, and the sweet treats are amazing.
The Wensleydale Creamery and Bistro
What can we say, other than cheese and more cheese! The cafe does sell other very nice things too! Try Calverts Bistro for great lunch including roasts on a Sunday and the amazing cheesy afternoon tea!
Penny Garth Café
A great down to earth cafe.
Laburnum House
A lovely traditional cafe with homebred treats and sandwiches.
The Firebox
Very popular cafe to the back of the main car park by the Dales countryside museum.
The Wensleydale Pantry
More than a cafe, this is the place to go if you want a roast or hearty home cooked food any day of the week. Their puddings are pretty special too and it is licensed. Open until around 7.30pm in the evening and is very popular with many of our guests for down to earth good food!
Pubs and Restaurants
This lovely pub has a great reputation for food and our guests really enjoy it. We love it too! It is be best to too book online to make a reservation. Or call 01969 667214
The Fountain
Very much a friendly local pub. They do wholesome and hearty home cooked pub classics. You can call them to book a table in the back dining room our take a chance and walk in for a seat in the bar. Call -1969 667206
This pub has a good covered terrace at the rear as well as lots of tables at the front. It is recently under new management, and has a Greek / Turkish inspired menu.
The Board Inn

The Chippie
It’s very good! They have a small basic cafe alongside the takeaway. If you fancy an alfresco meal one evening you will find picnic benches with a great view a couple of minutes away at the rear of the car park. Their fish and chips are very good but the homemade steak pie is awesome! A great value for money option.
A little outside Hawes
The StoneHouse
A lovely family owned establishment with a changing dinner menu. Has a very good local reputation, our first choice for a treat! Great for morning coffee, lunch or an afternoon tea spot in their garden if you are out walking too.
The Green Dragon Pub at Hardraw
Newly refurbished at Hardraw and now offering a good pub food menu. They also hold very popular music nights on Wednesday and some Saturdays. Book a table online.
The Middle House at Askrigg
Again new refurbished and a very welcoming spot for lunch or dinner with an interesting menu. Lots of locals love this place.
The Stags Head at Simonstone Hall
Both restaurant and bar meals are available and the terrace is lovely to sit out on for a drink when you are walking the Hawes circular.
Yorebridge House in Bainbridge
This 3 AA rosette restaurant has a great reputation, a good special occasion choice.
The Wensleydale Heifer at West Witton
Has a great reputation and again a good choice for special occasion. We absolutely love Sunday lunch here. Is around a 25 minute drive away.
